Sunbury’s Roxy Marshall gears up for MCG stomp

Roxy Marshall is making every stride count

Roxy Marshall is making every stride count as she prepares to tackle the MCG’s 7000-plus steps.

The Sunbury resident is training daily for this year’s Stadium Stomp, billed as the ultimate stair-climbing challenge.

Ms Marshall was inspired to take charge of her health about four years ago after her husband had a heart attack and a friend was diagnosed with leukaemia.

‘‘You sit back and look at things and it makes you change your whole lifestyle,’’ she said.

On July 5, Ms Marshall will complete a circuit of the MCG’s level one seating bowl, walking up the steps between every seat before ascending to level four. There, she will again complete a lap of the famous ground while covering every step.

The full course can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours to complete.

‘‘Every year I try to do something to really stretch myself and the stomp will certainly do that,’’ she said.

Ms Marshall, who is preparing her body by lifting leg weights and completing cardio work and StairMaster climbs, is using the event to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
