Sunbury’s big weekend out

The community enjoyed time together, while learning about council’s plans for the heritage-listed building 22 (Karen Ferguson).

Sunbury residents gathered at Jacksons Hill on the last weekend in October for a range of activities and to engage with the community, arts and culture precinct project.

Have Fun on the Hill ran from October 28 to 29, and provided information about council’s plans for the heritage-listed building 22.

It comes ahead of the community consultation period regarding development of a community arts and cultural precinct at Jacksons Hill, which is part of the state government’s plan to revitalise the area.

Mayor Joseph Haweil said the precinct will be a fantastic addition to the Sunbury and surrounding communities.

“We are pleased the state government has recognised the need to revitalise Jacksons Hill for both new and established residents,” he said.

“Particularly with a thriving arts and culture precinct that they have supported us to begin at the site of Building 22.”

This building was once the Female Refractory Ward and will ultimately be the site for stage one of the Hill’s revitalisation.
