Three Sunbury teenagers have their eyes on selection in an Australian softball team after success at the recent National Softball Championships.

Hunter Kelly, 15, Matthew Bedwell, 13, and Taliah Kelly, 13 tasted success in the championships last month.

Matthew’s under 14s team achieved first place in the Australian regional championships, while Hunter and his under 16s team were the runners-up in the national championships.

Taliah competed in the under 14 Australia regional championships, placing fifth overall.

The Sunbury Softball Association players now have hopes to be selected in an Australian softball squad.

Matthew’s mum and association president Kathy Bedwell said she was thrilled with the teens success.

“They all have a great training ethic and they are all nice kids,” she said.

“They deserve the success that they have had.

“We were robbed just before Christmas and all our high tech equipment … was stolen.

“These guys have had to do the hard yards at home and elsewhere to get their training up to scratch, which they have with no complaints.”
