Sunbury’s award-winning Christmas on the Green celebration is just around the corner.

Performances, children’s activities and a live nativity scene will bring the spirit of Christmas to life on Saturday, December 9, at the Sunbury Lay Ecumenical Committee-run evening.

More than 2500 locals joined Sunbury’s churches last year to celebrate the festive season.

This year the free event was recognised as Hume’s Community Event of the Year at the council’s Australia Day awards.

Hume’s mayor at the time, councillor Drew Jessop, said the evening was “a massive success in the Hume community”.

“It brought together more than 2500 people, provided local schools and artists with an opportunity to showcase their talents and also raised funds for local community groups, such as CareWorks SunRanges,” Cr Jessop said.

Hume council said the event also “delivered fun, excitement and pride to the residents of Sunbury and the wider community”.

Christmas on the Green is on Saturday, December 9, from 5pm at Sunbury Village Green, 7 Stawell Street, Sunbury.

The carols will be broadcast live on Sunbury Radio 99.3FM.
