Sunbury SES and CFA unite

Sunbury’s SES and CFA volunteers are training together to determine how the services can complement each other at emergency callouts.

More than 20 SES and CFA volunteers faced a simulated two-vehicle accident involving trapped persons and a car fire at Sunbury SES Headquarters and Training Ground on April 30.

This exercise was the first of two training sessions that the services will undertake together this year.

Sunbury SES training deputy controller Andrew Patience said that this preparation improves the services’ response to callouts in the community.

“We have found that when [the SES and CFA] train together in situations like this it makes the real calls work that much better,” Mr Patience said.

“We have done similar training with our friends at Clarkefield CFA and Diggers Rest CFA. Each time has resulted in better responses and better outcomes for those people we are helping.”
