Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn has demanded the urgent sealing of Sunbury Road where it meets the Tullamarine Freeway.
The Liberal MP called on Roads and Road Safety Minister Luke Donnellan in Parliament last week for urgent action, labelling the state of the road “truly disgraceful”.
Mr Finn said Sunbury Road’s extension on to the freeway was the worst surface he had seen on any road. He said the road’s condition was causing damage to vehicles and had been doing so for weeks.
“The people of Sunbury and surrounds have put up with a great deal over the course of the widening of the Tullamarine Freeway,” Mr Finn said. “But I really have to draw the minister’s attention to the state of the Sunbury Road extension.”
He insisted a “proper surface” be restored as “a matter of urgency”.
VicRoads regional directory metro north west Vince Punaro said work was being done.
“We’re doing extensive maintenance works on Sunbury Road over the next few months, including patching and resurfacing works,”
Mr Punaro said.
He said work was also being done on a $5.4 million project to improve safety on Sunbury Road, near Melbourne Airport, and to install roadside flexible safety barriers and centre median barriers to reduce the likelihood of crashes.
