A popular Sunbury park is expected to stay green throughout the year after an irrigation system was installed as part of a recent upgrade.

A shelter, picnic table, seats and a drinking fountain, including a dog’s bowl, have also been added at the Nook Bicentennial Park on Vaughan Street.

Hume mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou says the new irrigation system is ‘‘a big deal’’.

‘‘It means that the grass and plants at the park will be green and healthy, even in the height of summer,’’ she says.

‘‘Our officers have also added some new turf around the shelter to improve the park’s appearance.’’

Sunbury resident Barry Watson says the Nook is regularly frequented by families, joggers and people walking their dogs.

‘‘I’ve been here 40 years, and to see the Nook grow the way it has is great. They’ve spent a lot of money on it, but they’ve done a good job.’’

He says the improvements will attract more people and encourage them to spend more time at the picturesque reserve.

‘‘It’s just such a fantastic spot,’’ Mr Watson said.
