Sunbury re-elects Bull despite primary vote drop

Labor MP Josh Bull retained the seat of Sunbury at Saturday’s election, despite a 14.7 per cent drop in his primary vote.

With 72.7 per cent of the vote counted as of 1pm on Sunday, Mr Bull secured 43.9 per cent of first preference votes, ahead of Liberal candidate Simmone Cottom, who received 31.7 per cent.

These primary votes flowed to independent and minor parties, with independent candidate Laurence Pincini receiving 4 per cent, Animal Justice Party’s Rohanna Mohr 3.8 per cent and Family First Victoria candidate Charles Pace gaining 3.5 per cent.

On a two party preferred basis, Mr Bull led Ms Cottom 56.7 per cent to 43.3 per cent.

Mr Bull, who has held Sunbury since the seat was created in 2014, beat Ms Cottom for two candidate preferred votes at all polling centres except Bulla, where residents have been vocal about the dumping of West Gate Tunnel spoil.
