The station manager of Sunbury’s 3NRG community radio has been remembered as a ‘‘straight shooter’’ who was always there when someone needed a hand.
The death of Michael Cherriman, who had been part of the station team since the mid-1990s, was announced on air early on February 8.
‘‘Mike has been an incredible asset to the station over the years and he will be greatly missed,’’ station president Adrian Lodders told listeners.
He said the ‘‘station elder and dear friend’’ had played a vital role in the organisation through his roles as a presenter, committee member and station manager.
Mr Lodders later told Star Weekly that many people had been saddened by the news.
‘‘Not only was Mike a great supporter of what 3NRG was doing in the community, but he was a very good mentor as well,’’ Mr Lodders said. ‘
‘He was a straight shooter who was always happy to pass on his knowledge.’’
Mr Lodders said Mr Cherriman had been battling ill health but had been doing well until his condition deteriorated in recent weeks.
He is survived by his wife Lyn and three children.
