Sunbury RSL Sub-Branch commemorated Anzac Day with thousands of people gathered at the cenotaph on the bright autumn day.
The commemoration began at 6pm Anzac eve with a holding ceremony around the cenotaph, followed by the dawn service, and the morning service at about 9.50am on April 25.
The morning service kicked off with a march from the post office, where thousands of people marched or offered supportive claps from the side of the road.
The march finished at the village green and the crowd settled into the service, which was opened by Sunbury RSL president Graeme Williams.
Mr Williams, who got involved in the RSL when he returned from Vietnam, said Anzac Day is important to remember the people who served.
“It’s a good chance for us to remember the people who we served with, and those who served before us,” Mr Williams said.
“And to pay homage to them, it is a deep and meaningful day to us, and sometimes it gets a bit [emotional].”
Students from Sunbury College also addressed the crowd, which included; Sunbury MP Josh Bull, and Jacksons Creek Ward Councillors Jarrod Bell and Jack Medcraft.
Colourful wreaths were laid around the cenotaph by local groups, organisations and people, and the service finished up with a barbeque and drinks in the Memorial Hall.
