A group of volunteers from Sunbury churches are working together to give anyone who’s lonely a little bit of heaven on earth this Christmas.
Christmas Day lunch at Sunbury Baptist Church is prepping up to feed 120 people this year. Spokesman Pete Dove says the event, now in its sixth year, attracts a range of people.
‘‘We have a complete mix … we have some families, we have people who have recently lost someone,’’ he says.
‘‘We also get people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. It’s not just for people who can’t afford Christmas dinner.’’
Mr Dove says the festive season can be one of the hardest times for people who’ve experienced job or relationship problems, or the death of a loved one.
‘‘Basically you shouldn’t be lonely on Christmas Day,’’ he says.
Traditional meals are served from 11.30am-2pm. Bookings and details: 9740 7683.
