Sunbury celebrating rich rainbow community on IDAHOBIT

“You are seen, you are important and you are celebrated.”

These are the words Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health (SCCH) acting chief executive Julie Landy wants to send to the town’s LGBTIQA+ community this International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on Tuesday, May 17.

Residents, local businesses and organisations have been invited to celebrate the day which seeks to raise awareness of and end the discrimination queer communities face all over the world.

SCCH and Hume council, alongside local LGBTIQA+ people have put together two fabulous IDAHOBIT events, including a flag raising ceremony and art exhibition.

Sunbury’s IDAHOBIT flag raising ceremony, taking place at Sunbury’s Village Green at 12.30pm, will include speakers from SCCH, Hume council and voices from the local queer community.

SCCH staff will be there to chat about services offered by the organisation, and there will be free coffee and cake too.

From 4-7.30pm will be the launch of Rainbow Bridges at the Sunbury Youth Centre, an exhibition highlighting the lived experiences of LGBTIQA+ community members, told through videos and images.

Official proceedings for the Rainbow Bridges launch will start at 6pm, to register any dietary and accessibility needs go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/rainbowbridgessunbury.
