The council has applied for almost $1.2 million in grants from the government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and Children’s Facilities Capital Program to get the five projects underway.
It is has sought $500,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund to redevelop the Galaxy Land Playground, with the council set to contribute $500,000.
It was also hoping to secure $300,000 for a pavilion at Bulla Village Tennis Club and $375,000 to upgrade the Sunbury streetscape.
Mayor Geoff Porter said the council submitted eight applications to the fund for sporting and community facility upgrades.
“Community groups and sporting clubs do a fantastic job at representing our city and these upgrades will help to ensure that they have adequate facilities,” he said.
The council also wants funding for four preschools as part of the Children’s Facilities Capital Program. Cr Porter said the council hoped to secure $10,000 each for the McEwen Drive and Learmonth Street preschools in Sunbury to install synthetic turf and refurbish play spaces.
“It is vital that our community has access to great local kindergartens, especially in our growth areas,” he said.
