Sunbury AusMumpreneur feels ‘lovely’

A Sunbury woman has been named a finalist in this year’s national AusMumpreneur Awards, celebrating the mums in business who are nailing it.

Kelly Goodfellow is the businesswoman behind Comfort on the Spectrum, in which she designs and makes sensory-friendly clothes for people with conditions like autism, sensory processing disorder, ADHD or sensitive skin.

Ms Goodfellow’s son has a genetic condition called Norrie Disease, as well as autism spectrum disorder – it was his own clothing discomfort which made her want to create the loungewear and pyjamas.

“We always struggled to find clothing that he felt comfortable wearing due to his sensory sensitivities, especially as he got older,” Ms Goodfellow said.

“It was during [the] Covid-19 lockdown when he was wearing pyjamas two sizes too small that I had enough and decided it was time to do something about it.

“The idea sparked in my mind and my heart to create Comfort on the Spectrum.

“It took 12 months of hard work, designing, sampling and learning everything I could before I was happy with all of the design aspects of our products.”

Ms Goodfellow was named a finalist in the product design category of the AusMumpreneur Awards, with the winners to be announced on Thursday night.

“It feels really lovely to be validated in something that I have worked so hard on, amongst some other amazing business women,” Ms Goodfellow said.

“I was so surprised when I got the nomination that I didn’t even tell anyone for a while.

“I just let it sink in. Then when I got through to the finalists, I was shocked again, but happy to shout it from the rooftops.”
