From a pyjama day to a sausage sizzle, Year 12 students from Salesian College in Sunbury raised funds for a Royal Children’s Hospital Ward throughout this school term.

As part of the Royal Children’s Hospital ongoing Sponsor a Bed program, the funds were donated to the Banksia Ward, which provides mental health services to children and adolescents.

The school’s fundraising efforts included seeking donations from local businesses through a raffle, hosting a pyjama day with a gold coin donation, and a sausage sizzle and entertainment fundraising day with staff and students.

A recent count indicated that the students raised about $6700 through these activities.

Salesian student Shakira said that she was proud to contribute money to a mental health support ward.

“Mental health is a significant issue for young adults like me. Having faced my own mental health challenges, I feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude for everyone who has contributed to this vital cause,” Shakira said.

“I truly believe that without services like these, my mental well-being would be in a much harder place. I feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a meaningful cause that helps so many others,” she said.

Student Meagan said that her favourite part of the fundraising was contacting local businesses to seek donations through the raffle.

“It was very encouraging to know that the wider Sunbury community believed in our efforts, and it was great to see them supporting the cause,” Meagan said.
