It would have been easy to mistake the workings of Sacred Heart College’s Constitutional Convention for those of Parliament last Thursday.
Accompanied by an array of Victorian politicians, students became politicians for the day as they debated whether the federal government should intervene in Australia’s energy production in response to national and international climate change issues.
About 100 students discussed the future of Australia’s environment, with students from Girton Grammar School, Salesian College Sunbury, Marist College Bendigo and Sunbury College joining the Kyneton host school.
Federal Senator for Victoria Jane Hume and Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters spoke about the environmental issues.
Also in attendance were Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas, State Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio, state Lower House innovation, energy and resources and renewables opposition spokesman David Southwick and state Upper House Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell.
