Sunbury Secondary College students will get their “15 minutes of fame” at the school’s upcoming arts extravaganza.

Show Off, on November 22 and 23, will showcase students’ art, music, digital productions, performance, food and fashion throughout the year.

Design and technology teacher Lisa Wills says the free event, now in its seventh year, helps students benchmark their work in real-time.

Show Off incorporates the whole notion about following something through to the end,” Ms Wills says.

“It’s all about authentic learning and giving them a real life experience.

“It gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents. We’ve got some really creative kids, and this is a way to show what you otherwise wouldn’t see. We want to promote creativity because, in today’s world, creativity can be what makes you different.”

The theme of this year’s Show Off is ‘The 60s – have your 15 minutes of fame’, a highlight of which will be the students’ fashion parade.

“The parade is organised entirely by fashion students in year 11,” Ms Wills says.

“They start planning for it at the beginning of the year, and they’ve worked on it since then. They each have a role to perform, whether it be directing, looking for models, working behind the scenes.”

Showtime for Show Off will be 6.30-9pm both nights. Tickets available at the school.
