Willowbank Primary School pupils will ride, scoot or walk to school next week to mark National Ride2School Day.

Willowbank learning specialist Claire Davis said riding to school builds confidence and road awareness.

“It’s so important to get the kids out and about and embrace the Macedon Ranges and build their confidence,” she said.

Parents are also encouraged to walk the route with their children beforehand so they are familiar with the location and the terrain.

“Ride the route together so your child is familiar with the inclines, surface and has the confidence to ride the route,” Ms Davis said.

“Remember, children can ride on the footpath, but ensure their bikes are safe, have a bell and they have the correct safety gear before riding”.

Ms Davis said they are expecting a strong turnout, with about 80 kids riding or scooting to school last year.

“Last year, in our first year… I would say about 90 per cent of the kids rode or scootered to school,” she said.

Ride2School Day is on Friday, March 24.
