Stories from the heart

Warm up this winter with a storytelling evening.

Dromkeen Homestead will host three open mic evenings for locals to share their stories.

Homestead owner Bernadette Joiner said the winter series will be held on the third Friday of each month.

“It’s an open mic evening and … people … just share their stories,” she said. “People have five minutes with the microphone and it’s based on the night’s theme.”

The theme of the first evening is ‘second chance’.

“They’re just simple, from the heart, stories and we want people to be in the story as well,” Ms Joiner said. “I’ve got my first five minute story and it’s a memory of something to do with my grandfather where he had a second chance at something.”

Ms Joiner said memories of her grandfather telling her stories during her childhood were the inspiration behind this winter’s event.

“He was a great storyteller and he would share stories from his childhood.”

The events are on June 21, July 19 and August 16 at 1012 Gisborne-Kilmore Road, Riddells Creek. Supper will be provided.
