A relocatable “spud hut” that was once home to itinerant pickers will be on display as Trentham celebrates its potato-growing heritage during the town’s annual Spudfest this Saturday.
Event spokesman Peter Young said the two-metre by one-metre hut, built about 1900, was one of many that used to dot the district’s hills.
It’s owned by the Walsh family, Trentham’s longest-standing potato farmers, who can trace their heritage back to county Cork in Ireland.
The annual festival includes spud games and activities, food, market stalls, free music and cooking demonstrations.
It’s at Quarry Street Reserve from 10am-4pm. Details: www.trenthamspudfest.org.au
