As Sue Lindsey returned home from work on the first day of Victoria’s seven-day lockdown, she was in an average mood.

As well as dealing with the new COVID-19 restrictions, Ms Lindsey had received news that a family member was unwell, and her trip to Sydney later in the month was now in doubt.

When she got off the train at Sunbury station, Ms Lindsey said she saw something that was out of place.

“I was one of the last to leave the station and as I approached the barriers, I noticed something on them, it was a bunch of flowers,” Ms Lindsey said.

“My first thought was that someone had accidentally left them there, but as I read the card on them I realised these were just randomly left here to brighten someone’s day!

“I went home still smiling. I called the number of the florist which was on the flowers and thanked them so much for brightening up my day.”

Irelands Florist of Sunbury co-owners Fiona Duff and Annette Duff, along with staff member Stephanie, were responsible for the floral drop-offs around town.

Ms Duff said after the lockdown was announced, they realised they wouldn’t have the foot traffic to sell their stock.

“We thought, why not leave them for someone to enjoy, rather than have them go to waste,” she said.

“The community has really supported us in the past, during the lockdown over Valentine’s Day, we had people buying $50 bouquets just so that our business wouldn’t go pear-shaped.

“With everything going on we just wanted to brighten someone’s day.”

Ms Lindsey said she was inspired after finding the flowers.

“I thought I should replace my find with something else,” she said.

“So I went into Woolies and bought a box of chocolates and placed them on the barrier with a message to be taken and enjoyed.”
