Mental health will be at the forefront of Salesian College Sunbury’s annual Father’s Day event.

Former AFL player and founder of mental health foundation PukaUp, Wayne Schwass, will be a guest speaker as part of the college’s virtual Father’s Day celebrations on Friday.

Mr Schwass will speak about his experiences of fatherhood and the importance of mental health in the community.

College principal Mark Brockhus said it was more important than ever that individuals remained on top of their mental health and reached out to someone if times get tough.

“Wayne Schwass is an outstanding raw and powerful motivational speaker who talks about mental illness having no discrimination,” he said.

“It can be difficult to navigate our way through this rapidly evolving global health crisis so it is nice to have a free local event that everyone can sit down and enjoy.

“We also understand that during these unprecedented times, the importance of encouraging everyone to have mental health discussions with families, children and friends.

“Our virtual Father’s Day event aims to lift the spirits of the community with performances from local musicians and present music students.

Tickets to the virtual Father’s Day event are free. The event begins at 7.30am on Friday, September 4.
