Sports hub bid is all business

A Macedon Ranges regional sports hub is a step closer to becoming reality.

The business plan for the multi-purpose indoor sports facility, which will form a major part of the $42 million Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct at the corner of Barringo and Hamilton roads in New Gisborne, was launched last week after the completion of the project’s feasibility study.

Victorian Senator James Paterson said investing in regional sports and community infrastructure was a priority for the federal government, which put $100,000 towards the business plan.

“The business plan … outlines a range of economic and social benefits that the new sports hub will bring to the community,” Senator Paterson said at last week’s launch.

“This plan ensures that the new hub will not just cater for sports, but will support the community by providing a place to meet, socialise and host cultural activities, functions and school events – precisely the kind of place that every community needs.”

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the Macedon Ranges community had called for more indoor courts and improved sport facilities.

“Our investment in this business plan is a step towards making this a reality, informing the development of a sports hub that meets the community’s needs into the future,” he said.
