Men’s health will be at the forefront at the annual Sons of the West program

The popular program is a free 10-week health program aimed at men over the age of 18.

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health has partnered with The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation to deliver the program, beginning March 15.

Western Bulldogs Community Foundation general manager Kashif Bouns said the program, now in its fourth year in Sunbury, combines guest speakers talking about men’s health topics such as nutrition, mental health and gender equity, with fun group exercise.

“The Sons of the West has changed the lives of countless men living in the north and west of Melbourne and Victoria,” he said.

“The vast majority of our participants report that they better understand the services offered by local health organisations following completion of the course plus they feel more knowledgeable abut the health topics covered.”

Previous Sons of the West participant Mike Dunne said he noticed a significant change in his weight after the first few weeks of the program,

“I now have regular medical checks, I am more outgoing and have reduced my weight significantly, thus reducing potential health issues later in life,” he said.

“Sons of the West changed my life for the good and will continue to further on into the future.”
