Smoke warning

Macedon Ranges council and local CFAs are warning residents that they may smell or see smoke today across the shire.

Council said in a post to Facebook that smoke from the Longwood fire near Seymour is drifting into the area, and there is no immediate local threat.

Darraweit Guim CFA confirmed to Facebook that they have been on the scene at the Chintin fire this morning and have confirmed everything is still safe there, with smoke drifting in from fires across the state.

Council said to protect your health, limit time outdoors, use air-conditioning on recirculate where possible and seek relief in air-conditioned public places like libraries or shopping centres.

Council also recommended people with heart or lung conditions should follow their medical action plans, carry medication, and seek medical health if symptoms worsen.

Ahead of Friday’s total fire ban and significant fire weather forecasted, Bolinda-Monegeetta CFA are hosting a Get Fire Ready session for residents with horses, pets and livestock tonight online.

The two sessions will cover things residents can do now to ensure preparedness for Friday’s risk, and the fire season to come.

The sessions will take place tonight at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
