The incredible work of Woodend-based Youth Live4Life was in the spotlight once again last week.
When Youth Minister Dr Anne Aly visited the Macedon Ranges on Friday, February 10, McEwen MP Rob Mitchell took the opportunity to show her the work the youth mental health charity was doing.
The organisation delivers teen and accredited youth mental health first aid training in school and the wider community, and hopes to start conversations to reduce mental health stigma and promote young leaders as mental health ambassadors.
Dr Aly said mental health was a top priority for young people, which was why the government was establishing a mental health advisory group made up of young people.
“Organisations like Youth Live4Life do an excellent job supporting rural and regional young Australians with their mental health and wellbeing,” she said.
Mr Mitchell said the government’s investment in student wellbeing programs in schools would ensure programs like Live4Life continue to help those who need it most.
“Demand for mental health services for young people is at an all time high, especially in regional and rural communities,” he said.
In a Facebook post after the visit, Youth Live4Life said their crew was at the heart of everything they did.
“Learning about mental health in schools helps young people smash the stigma and understand who to approach if they or their peers need help. By becoming ambassadors, and leading the way, our Live4Life Crew can change the narrative around how we all discuss mental health,” the post said.
