Shout out for LGBTIQA+ youth leaders

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health are on the lookout for LGBTIQA+ youth leaders for WayOut’s pride camp in October 2023.

Young people who identify as LGBTIQA+ and between 18 years old and 25 years old are being sought to help plan and support the delivery of the three-day camp for people in the Macedon Ranges.

WayOut project worker Mez Lanigan said no experience is required and the project is a great opportunity to learn.

“No experience is required to be one of our youth leaders, just tons of enthusiasm,” Ms Lanigan said.

“This is a great opportunity to learn a whole range of new skills including event planning and management as well as useful leadership skills.”

The pride camp looks to support LGBTIQA+ youth to help them build social connections and a sense of belonging, while developing knowledge and skills that contribute to good mental health and wellbeing.

A leader from last year’s camp said the position helped them to learn and share from the people around them, while increasing their sense of belonging.

“As a youth leader at pride camp and being a young person myself, it was extremely valuable to be able to spend time, learn and share from and with the next generation of young people,” they said.

“I felt a sense of belonging…it felt for me a big full circle moment.”

Anyone interested should register this interest by June 12.
