Short films, big stories

By Esther Lauaki

Macedon Ranges film lovers will be treated to comedy, drama and animation at an upcoming festival.

Next month the Macedon Ranges Film Society will hold its inaugural short film festival – Cool Climate Cinema.

The program will feature 12 short films screened in two 50-minute sessions with a 20 minute intermission.

Organiser Henry Screen said that Cool Climate Cinema aims to celebrate the skill and creativity of short film producers, working with limited time and “very limited budgets” to tell engaging, entertaining and often moving stories.

“It’s something a bit different,” Mr Screen said. “It’s about exposing people to some really good short films that [they] would normally not get to see.”

The Cool Climate Cinema film festival will be held on Saturday, August 18 starting at 4.30pm at the Newham Mechanics Hall. Tickets are available online.
