When Kim Flower heard her boss’ son had been diagnosed with leukaemia, she was devastated not just as an employee, but as a close family friend as well.

She wasn’t sure what to do, but knew about the World’s Greatest Shave, and decided to get on board and take her colleagues at Stokes Security in Sunbury with her.

“When I heard the news, I didn’t really hesitate, I didn’t really think twice,” Ms Flower said.

“It’s something that I felt, if I couldn’t do anything to help them on a personal level, then this is the next best thing.”

Her kids grew up with her employer’s children, and she described the company as “like a family”.

“You’ve got fathers and sons, brothers and sisters throughout the company,” she said.

“It started off quite small and has grown over the last few years, we’ve been in Sunbury for over ten years and built a community here.”

At first, Ms Flower decided to do the shave on her own, but once her team flagged their interest in being involved too, she organised a hairdresser to come to the office.

“I want to make a point of it, so I’ve decided to do a complete head shave and donate my hair to the wig association,” she said.

On March 31, multiple staff will partake in the fundraising cause founded by the Leukaemia Foundation.

“When something like this happens to any one of us, we all unite and get together and support each other, like family would,” Ms Flower said.
