The 1st Sunbury Scouts will be gathering their garbage bags and gloves as part of Clean Up Australia Day on March 3.

Scouts group leader Natasha Di Vito said the annual event was an opportunity for the troop to look after “the environment they’re going to inherit”.

“Giving back to the community and being able to do this in a public place that everyone else gets to enjoy as well is really important to them,” she said.

Ms Di Vito said one Joey Scout member was making a special effort ahead of the event.

“As part of their badge work Joey Scouts are required to raise awareness or do something for someone else selflessly,” she said.

“Ethan has been writing to local businesses and he had written to Bunnings to ask for some help … they usually supply some tongs and some garbage bags [for the clean-up] … so that’s what Ethan wanted to do for his project, which was to write and gain local business support for helping us and helping our local community.”
