Birds would have caught a fright in Kyneton last week as a collection of scarecrows inhabited the town.

More than 30 handmade scarecrows were displayed in the front of homes and businesses as part of the Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival.

Residents, the local playgroup, primary schools, kinders and even the hospital got involved in the annual scarecrow competition.

Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival secretary Marg Dearricott said the competition had been bringing an extra element of fun to the festival for about six years.

“They’re terrific,” Ms Dearricott said. “They add an element of surprise and a lot of fun.”

This year some of the scarecrows were dressed to celebrate the 2017 festival theme, “Magic in the Ranges”.
