Salesian College student named as ambassador for the Shrine

A Sunbury teen has been named as a young ambassador for the Shrine of Remembrance.

Salesian College year 10 student, Rachel Grover was appointed to the leadership role to help encourage other young people to learn more about Australia’s military history.

Salesian College Sunbury principal Mark Brockhus said the school was “immensely proud” of Rachel.

“Though she is unable to participate and physically attend due to the coronavirus, this doesn’t detract from the excitement of Rachel’s achievement,” he said.

“She was chosen to participate in many services, engage with the public in the Galleries of Remembrance, as well as build knowledge through research of the service and sacrifice of service people and wartime civilians from Victoria.

“This is certainly quite an honour to be selected as there are only a few students selected in Victoria. Rachel is the only Sunbury representative.”

Mr Brockhus said the school held a virtual assembly on April 24 to mark Anzac Day, which was joined by more than 1500 students and staff.

“This year we wanted to continue to remember the families who have carried and continue to carry the burdens of service, of loss and of war,” he said.
