Saftey boost for ‘busy’ intersection

Gisborne motorists can look forward to a safer drive through one of the town’s “busiest” intersections.

Regional Roads Victoria has released a concept design for a new roundabout at the Melbourne and Kilmore roads intersection.

Insights gained during online and face-to-face community consultation influenced the concept design for the new roundabout.

The roundabout will feature an existing mature oak tree in the centre, with detailed landscaping plans currently being explored to ensure the new intersection serves as a fitting town entrance for locals and visitors.

Improved street lighting and shared user paths at the “increasingly busy” intersection will also be implemented.

Regional Roads Victoria will now focus on finalising detailed designs for the roundabout.

Works to relocate water, gas and telecommunications surrounding the intersection is expected to begin in summer, with roundabout construction scheduled for late 2021.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said the $12.5 million upgrade will address concerns from locals about the intersection.

“We heard loud and clear from the community about the importance of improving visibility, traffic flow and pedestrian access at this intersection while retaining Gisborne’s village feel,” she said.

“As promised, we’re fixing Gisborne’s most difficult intersections and delivering vital road safety improvements right across the Macedon Ranges.”
