The Sunbury community is being urged to fight crime in the region by applying for grants of up to $10,000.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull says local groups and clubs can help Sunbury tackle crime by applying for the state’s Community Safety Fund grants.
“The Community Safety Fund grants allow councils and community groups to harness local knowledge and deliver small projects that will make a big difference in the long run,” he said.
“By delivering local initiatives that help stop crime before it happens, we are continuing to build a safer Sunbury.”
The grants can be for projects such as security equipment and education and awareness initiatives.
Goonawarra Golf Club used a $3289 community safety grant to install electronic security gates at its course.
Club general manager Jeffrey Graham said the electronic gates stopped vehicles driving on to the course after hours.
“They’ve allowed us to secure the facility,” Mr Graham said.
The number of reported criminal offences in Sunbury rose by 2.3 per cent last year, up to 3056 from 2991 in 2015, according to Crime Statistics Agency data.
Applications for the grants close on Friday, July 14.
