Spotlight on future development in Romsey

Romsey residents are being urged to share their vision for the town beyond 2021.

Macedon Ranges council will begin surveying residents, community groups, businesses and service agencies this weekend to guide planning for the town.

Information gathered during the survey will form part of the Romsey Issues and Opportunities Paper, which will guide strategic planning for Romsey.

A strategic plan for Romsey was adopted by the council in 2009, but it only set a vision for the town to 2021.

Planning and environment director Angela Hughes said the council was now focused on the future planning of Romsey beyond 2021.

“To do this, we are first seeking to involve the community in understanding key issues and opportunities affecting the town,” she said.

“We are keen to hear the community’s thoughts and ideas on how they see their town now and into the future.”

Residents will be asked to give feedback on a range of topics such as settlement planning, infrastructure, heritage, the environment, retail areas and housing choices.

Ms Hughes said the survey would also help the council understand the importance of issues such as neighbourhood character, a vibrant town centre, protecting environmental assets, planning for community and recreation facilities to better meet the community’s changing needs, and creating job opportunities.

The council has engaged consultants to conduct the survey on June 23, 24, 30 and July 1.

After the survey, the council will hold workshops and focus group sessions in August with residents.
