Romsey on the scout for recruits

The Romsey Scouts group is down to 10 members – five Cubs and five Scouts – but it is determined to keep on keeping on.

The group faced closure earlier this year due to dwindling numbers, but its committee has decided to attempt a membership drive in a bid for new members.

Romsey Scout leader Ryan Watts said he would try his best to keep the club afloat.

“This year the group was at a crossroads,” he said.

“I’ve been part of Scouts in Sunbury since I was six years old and I want to see it continue for years to come.

“We have a Cub and Scout group and we’re hoping to develop older groups too. But for now, we would like to focus on the growth of our younger troops.”

Mr Watts said the group was hoping to recruit at least 10 new members.

“We’ve put together some great programs,” he said. “You can learn so much going away on camps and learning things that you don’t learn in school.

“We’re looking for the community to get behind us.”

Romsey Scouts meet on Mondays between 6pm and 8pm and Cubs meet on Tuesdays between 6pm and 7.30pm.
