Romsey man to share $1.5 mil prize with friends and community

A Romsey man who has unexpectedly come into $1.5 million has said he plans to share his winnings with friends and the community.

The winner of the division one prize from Saturday’s TattsLotto draw 3815 only discovered his success when he checked his ticket this morning.

“I scanned my ticket at the counter where you can check them yourself and I won $10 on another ticket and then I scanned this one it came up with an error,” the winner told a Tatts official.

“I went to the counter thinking that a power outage had impacted the computer system but the girl behind the counter told me I had won $1.5 million!”

The Romsey local bought his ticket at Romsey Supa IGA Newsagency & Lotto on Main Street on Saturday, February 10.

When confirming his win with Tatts earlier, he said he couldn’t quite believe it.

“To be honest with you, I’m not that excited,” he said with a laugh.

“Until it goes into that bank account, I don’t think it exists.

“I’ve told a few people and I think they are more excited about it than I am!”

The lucky winner said the money had come at the perfect time for him, but he wasn’t going to just spend it on himself.

“I was so excited when I thought I had won $10 as I’d been having a bit of a rough run lately but $1.5 million is just going to change things,” he said.

“I’m not going to go mad – not going to buy a Ferrari or anything like that.

“I’m going to clear my debts, put some away for the future and help a few people out.

“I’ve had some great friends who have been really good to me over the last few years so I want to share some of it with them.

“I also want to help out some local clubs and charitable organisations who need help too.”
