Romsey could become a town with a pub once again. A pub with 50 gaming machines.

Romsey Football Netball Club Inc applied to the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) for approval of 50 gaming machines at the Romsey Hotel.

The club committee announced its plan to reopen the Romsey Hotel on Facebook in February this year.

In the post, the club proposed it would lease and run the hotel with the profits to be shared by the local community.

“The distribution of all profits to local clubs and charities is to be decided by a Board of Trustees, made up of eminent local people, annually,” the post said.

At the time, club spokesman Darryn Hartnet said the feedback had been overwhelmingly positive.

“The idea is that the pub would meet the community needs [and be a] holistic approach in terms of [these] needs,” he said.

At a meeting on October 25, Macedon Ranges council decided to prepare a submission to the VGCCC. Chief executive Bernie O’Sullivan said council was recently notified of the application.

“Though this application is not directly with council, council can make a submission to the VGCCC in response, however, within tight timeframes,” he said.

“Council agreed… to provide authorisation for officers to notify the VGCCC of its intention to prepare and submit a submission.”

Community members can also make a submission on the application.

Romsey Football Netball Club declined to make a comment.
