Rising waters in Sunbury and surrounds

2.15PM UPDATE

Bulla-Diggers Rest Road is closed in both directions between Calder Freeway and Sunbury Road due to flooding, according to VicTraffic update at 1.58pm today.

Quartz and Greens streets in Bulla remain closed due to flooding.

Oaklands Road between Somerton Road and Craigieburn Road in Bulla remains closed due to road damage.

Gellies Road in Bulla remains closed due to flooding.

11.15AM UPDATE

Hume council has updated its list of road closures:

– CLOSED: Wildwood Road Bridge, Wildwood (Inundated)

– CLOSED: Gellies Road, Wildwood (open to local traffic only)

14/10 10AM UPDATE

VicEmergency has downgraded the flood warning for Deep Creek and Jacksons Creek from major to moderate.

The update replaced the Watch and Act message issued at 4.35am and 3.15am.

Residents are still being urged to avoid the flooded area.

“The level of the Deep Creek at Darraweit Guim has peaked at 7.68 metres overnight. The water level is currently at 6.13 metres, exceeding the Moderate Flood Level (6.10 metres) and falling,” VicEmergency said.

For Jacksons Creek, VicEmergency said the level of the Rosslynne Reservoir is currently at 51.7 metres and steady, around the Moderate Flood Level.

“It is expected to peak around the Moderate Flood Level (51.70 metres) Friday morning (14 October 2022),” VicEmergency said.

14/10 9.30AM UPDATE

Sunbury State Emergency Service (SES) responded to 25 calls for help across the region.

Sunbury SES commander Jarrod Bell said the unit had 40 volunteers active responding to calls for help and responding to flood rescues, supporting the community through the emergency.

“Our reminder to the community right now is this is not over, there is still plenty of water to flow into the rivers and streams,” Mr Bell said.

“Water levels are rising across the state… that means that the risk, specifically about driving through flood waters, is really critical.

“Sunbury SES has responded to 25 calls for help across Sunbury, and seven flood rescues across Victoria.”

Hume council has advised Bulla Road Bridge has now reopened.

14/10 UPDATE 7.50AM

Residents around Jacksons Creek are being urged to move to higher ground, roads continue to close as flooding impacts the Sunbury region.

A major flood warning has now been issued for Jacksons Creek and a watch and act warning has been issued.

VicEmergency said the level of the Rosslynne Reservoir is around the moderate flood level and is expected to peak there this morning (October 14).

The next update for Jacksons Creek is expected about 9.20am.

Bulla Road in Bulla is now closed due to flooding, VicTraffic advises road users follow signed diversion route, as of 4.36am today.

Lancefield Road near Gellies Road in Bulla is closed due to flooding.

Somerton Road near Green Street in Bulla is closed due to flooding.

Oaklands Road Oaklands Road between Somerton Road and Craigieburn Road in Bulla is closed due to Road Damage.

Residents are reporting on social media that they are being turned around at Bulla Bridge due to flooding at Deep Creek.

EARLIER

Roads in Sunbury and Wildwood are closed due to flooding.

In Facebook posts, Hume council said Settlement Road in Sunbury was closed off to all traffic and Gellies Road in Wildwood is partially closed due to flooding and severe road damage.

“Due to heavy rainfall, Settlement Road bridge is underwater and cannot be accessed,” council said.

“Please avoid the area and use Lancefield Road or Riddell Road as an alternate route.”

Traffic management will be onsite to assist at Gellies Road.

“Local residents can access their properties via detours. Please note that small passenger vehicles may be permitted to travel East to West but no other vehicles weighing over 2.5 tonnes,” council said.

“Avoid the area and use alternate routes: Lancefield Road to Konagaderra Road or Sunbury Road to Wildwood Road.”

Council said they would update posts when the roads are reopened.
