A Kyneton restaurant has taken it’s meals on wheels.
Like many restaurants, Colenso has been forced to close its doors to in-store dining, relying heavily on takeaway and delivery options.
Colenso owner and chef Kathryn Russack said when COVID-19 restrictions were introduced in March, a takeaway service would not be an option for business.
That was when she brought to life her online business 2eatathome – a subscription-based food service, delivering meals to the Macedon Ranges and beyond.
Since March, Ms Russack has delivered about 6000 meals.
“COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on our restaurant,” she said.
“We currently cannot open the dining room confidently.
“But somehow, we have found a way through and for now, 2eatathome is our way of enjoying the ingredients of our regional specialist supplies and taking it to the doors of our growing subscriber numbers so they can dine at leisure in their home.”
To help her online business gain more reach, Ms Russack applied for a state government Business Support Fund grant, and was successful in receiving $10,000 which was used to purchase a refrigerated food van.
“The business could not have continued without the addition of a newly purchased refrigerated food van,” she said.
“I really didn’t think we would be able to progress like we have.
“Now more than ever, we need to spend within our communities and be sure that all the things we can enjoy and share are there for now and the future.”
