Residents want better roads in Macedon Ranges

Macedon Ranges council needs to improve the condition of sealed roads, increase its roadside slashing and better plan for population growth, according to a new community satisfaction survey.

The survey, which was conducted on behalf of councils across Victoria, measures the community’s satisfaction with the council’s performance.

About 400 residents were asked to take part in the survey throughout February and March.

The council scored 56 for its overall performance, which is the same result as 2017. However, the score is lower than the state average of 59.

The survey found that east ward residents aged between 50 to 64 were the least satisfied with the council’s performance, while south ward residents were the happiest.

The condition of sealed local roads was named as the top area that the council could improve on.

The council scored 48, which is higher than the large rural shire average of  45 but lower than the Victorian average of 53.

Managing population growth and better roadside slashing were named as high priority areas, however many felt the council was under-performing in those areas, scoring 47 and 45 respectively.

Customer service was revealed as the council’s top performing area, with a score of 70.

“Every year we look at what our community is telling us through these survey results and we look to where we can improve in delivering services,” acting chief executive Dale Thornton said.
