Reeling in funding

Coliban Water has reeled in a fresh catch of funding for two of its reservoirs.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas announced that Coliban Water received two grants for its reservoirs in the Macedon Ranges; Lauriston Reservoir in Kyneton and the Upper Coliban Reservoir at Premier Mine Road.

Lauriston Reservoir has received $85,800 to install a floating fishing pontoon to enable fishers with limited mobility to access the water’s edge safely, as well as assist fishers with kayaks to launch and retrieve easily and safely.

Upper Coliban Reservoir has received $61,688 towards extending the boat ramp to account for lower water levels. This will allow visitors to launch their vessels in dry years for longer, and also help to protect the cultural heritage of the area.

In addition, the funding will go towards installing three new shelters with picnic tables as well as seven other picnic tables for recreational shoreline fishers to enjoy at various locations around the Upper Coliban and Lauriston Reservoirs. The two reservoirs are well stocked with popular native species such as Murray cod and golden perch.

Ms Thomas welcomed the funding for the community.

“Fishing is an important part of life in our community, and these grants will help ensure locals can get out on the water and enjoy the great outdoors,” she said.

The latest funding comes as part of the Recreational Fishing Grants Program, with 20 new projects sharing in over $2 million from the state government.
