Library books have proven to be a popular choice of entertainment during the COVID-19 lockdown in the Macedon Ranges.

More than half of Woodend Library’s collection was borrowed by locals before the region went into its second lockdown.

Charlotte Wood, Michael Connelly, Matt Cosgrove and Ahn Do were among the top 10 borrowed authors at the Woodend Library.

Library manager Lulu Cockram said she had never seen a large amount of the library’s collection out in the community at the one time.

“We let people know that we would close and they came in restricted numbers, masked up and for quick visits,” she said.

“They borrowed 55 per cent of Woodend Library’s collection.

“I have been at Woodend Library for over 10 years and have never had more than 25 per cent on loan.”

Although the library is closed to the public, staff are busy behind the scenes, assisting locals with the electronic library collection and the BeConnected Program.

“We can help you learn more about how to use your device, the internet, social media or how to access free e-books, audio books, newspapers, magazines or moves,” Ms Cockram said

“We can still do what librarians do best – assist with book suggestions, research and reference enquiries.

“We’d love to talk to you about books stories, news and life in lockdown.”
