Western Water customers in many Macedon Ranges towns may notice a slight change in their drinking water this month as the region switches to a Melbourne water supply.
The switch follows a recent dry period which has resulted in water levels at Rosslynne Reservoir in Gisborne falling below 20 per cent capacity.
Residents in Gisborne, New Gisborne, Gisborne South, Riddells Creek, Macedon and Mount Macedon had been receiving water from Rosslynne Reservoir since November last year. All water for these towns will now come from the Melbourne water supply system.
Lancefield, Woodend and Romsey residents had been receiving their water from the reservoir since early this year. Their water will now be supplied with a blend of water from local sources and the Melbourne water supply.
Western Water manager Graham Holt said the water supply changes were crucial to uphold the standard of Rosslynne Reservoir for the future.
“To preserve Rosslynne’s water levels and ensure future water supply, we are switching most towns in the Macedon Ranges over to the Melbourne drinking water supply system,” he said.
“Lancefield, Romsey and Woodend will continue to receive water from local supplies, but will be supplemented by water from the greater Melbourne water supply system.
“It’s normal to notice a slight change in taste when your water supply is changed, as water … varies.
“All the drinking water we supply is safe, healthy to drink and meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.”
