Ranges residents warned of fire risk

Macedon Ranges residents bordering the Northern Central fire district are being warned to prepare for catastrophic fire danger.

Malmsbury CFA put out a statement on Facebook to warn its residents to prepare for the highest level of fire danger with the township only 10 minutes from nearby Taradale, which is rated as catastrophic for Friday 9 January.

Malmsbury CFA said while the township under the central district has an extreme fire rating for Friday, the brigade will be preparing for catastrophic conditions.

“We need you to take this seriously. We need you to activate your fire plan. We need you to leave early. If you choose to leave, do not return until well after the cool change has passed, and only if it is safe to do so,” the brigade said.

Woodend CFA also warned residents on Facebook to prepare for the extreme conditions, and said conditions are very close to catastrophic.

Woodend CFA said it will be out the front of Woodend Coles tonight from 5pm to 6.30pm to chat through any concerns residents are having.
