Sunbury MP Josh Bull joined Fishing and Boating minister Sonya Kilkenny to release 30 catchable-size rainbow trout in Spavin Lake last week.
The 30 trout were some of 1000 released into waters across greater Melbourne.
Funded by recreational fishing licence fees, the release forms part of the government’s $35 million Go Fishing Victoria plan to get more people fishing.
“This is a great way for more people to try their luck casting a line so close to home – with Spavin Lake the perfect destination for families and kids to do so and spend time together on the water,” Mr Bull said.
The trout are good fishing for beginner fishers, because they’re easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures.
Rainbow trout are just some of the 10 million fish released across the state over the past year.
“Stocking our waters with rainbow trout right across greater Melbourne provides the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to try their luck casting a line and have a great day out on the water,” Ms Kilkenny said.
