Kyneton and Hanging Rock racecourses have been revamped in a boon for racegoers, the industry and horses.
The Kyneton course has been equipped with 110 new and refurbished tie-up stalls, walkways, fences and buildings – all designed to improve the safety and welfare of spectators, jockeys and horses.
The refurbishment of both racecourses was made possible by a $978,000 joint funding package with contributions from the state government, Macedon Ranges council and the club.
Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club manager Jon Dight said that part of the funding would be used to ring in the new year at the annual Family Day at the Hanging Rock event on January 1.
“We would like to thank the Victorian government for its investment in these major improvements to our two racecourses, and for their support for our New Year’s Family Day,” Mr Dight said.
“Hanging Rock is a picturesque racecourse at the foot of one of Victoria’s most iconic natural attractions, and we’re thrilled to provide a day of family entertainment for locals and visitors.”
Macedon Ranges MP Mary-Anne Thomas toured the refurbished Kyneton grounds last week. “Country racing makes a vital contribution to our economy and employment, that’s why we’re investing in these upgrades and improving the race day experience at both racecourses,” she said.
At the Hanging Rock Racecourse, the jockeys’ room, administration buildings and public toilets have been renovated and modernised, while the public bar has been extended.
New public walkways aim to improve safety by minimising the interaction of horses and racegoers and a new drainage system will harvest storm water for track irrigation.
