Residents are being asked to nominate what they feel are Macedon Ranges’ significant landscapes and views, as the council works to further protect the natural environment.
Macedon Ranges council’s new Landscape Assessment Study seeks to identify areas of visual, cultural and historical significance that may require further protection, and areas where guidelines may be needed for new development.
The information gathered will be used to establish new recommendations for the area’s management and subsequent amendments to the planning scheme.
Residents opinions are also being sought on a Biodiversity Strategy that aims to introduce better protection for the Macedon Ranges’ native plants and animals.
Mayor Jennifer Anderson has encouraged the community to get involved with the two projects.
“We can all contribute to improving biodiversity and caring for our scenic landscapes so it’s important that we work together to establish a shared vision,” Cr Anderson said.
Both projects will help to implement recommendations made by the Macedon Ranges Protection Advisory Committee.
Drop-in feedback sessions will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 5-7pm at Kyneton Mechanics Institute, 81 Mollison Street, and on Wednesday, February 21, from 6-8pm at Lancefield Neighbourhood House, 78 High Street.
