Sunbury Heights Primary School’s prep students got creative last week to celebrate their 100th day of the school year.
The cohort of 60 prep students all dressed up as 100-year-old versions of themselves to mark the occasion, using walking sticks and hairspray to add 95 years to their appearance.
Teacher Emily Duff said it was a particularly significant milestone given the school year had been interrupted by COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
“A lot of the kids have missed the social aspect of school, so having them back on site has been amazing,” Ms Duff said.
“The last transition [from online learning to in-person] was hard for a lot of them, it can take some time to get back into the swing of things.
“Some of the kids have been asking their grandparents for advice and sending us photos using ageing phone filters. It’s a really good buzz at the moment.
“It’s a really critical age for language and social development. But it’s an incredible group, the kids have been so resilient.”
Ms Duff said the milestone forms part of the curriculum, as the students have been counting up to 100 every day of school.
The year level also took part in a number of activities on the day around the theme, such as counting races and building 100 block towers.
“These five-year-olds are doing an amazing job, they arrive everyday with a smile and an eagerness to learn,” Ms Duff said.
