Preps learn the importance of water

Sunbury and Macedon Ranges preppies are discovering there’s a lot more to water than simply turning on a tap.

Western Water mascots Sammy the Snake and Frances the Frog feature prominently in an annual program for children starting school, teaching them about drinking water for health and how to be waterwise.

‘‘At the end of a dry summer, it’s a great time to be teaching young people about looking after our water for the future,’’ Western Water customer and community relations general manager Graham Holt said.

Last year’s program reached more than 1700 children at 37 primary schools across the authority’s service area.
